Geofoam is a lightweight fill in compliance with ASTM D6817 that gives you control over your geotechnical project. Geofoam is engineered to give you the greatest possible control for your project application: from design and timelines, to materials and costs, and — ultimately — control over your results.
It is a cellular plastic material that is strong, but has very low density (1% of traditional earth materials.) It is manufactured in block form and meets ASTM D6817, “Standard Specification for Rigid, Cellular Polystyrene Geofoam.” EPS Geofoam is available in a range of Types to provide control of structural integrity and cost effectiveness.

Geofoam is a term that was adopted by the geotechnical industry to describe a class of light weight fill made primarily from polymeric foams, such as expanded extruded and expanded molded polystyrene.
Expanded Molded Polystyrene foam, or EPS is the most widely used Geofoam in geotechnical applications today.

The reason why EPS Geofoam works exceptionally well to reduce vertical stresses is due to the fact that it is a “super” light weight fill. In the various type ranges of EPS Geofoam that are most commonly use in geotechnical applications, EPS Geofoam’s weight is less than 1 to 3% of traditional earth materials.
